Football Soccer Soccer Football
Just a quickie this one, for all you football lovers annoyed with the US use of the term "soccer" to describe the beautiful game ('cos they call something else "football"). Did you know that the term "soccer" is not a US invention, but a British Public School one? Oh yes, the toffs needed a name for football to go with "rugger" for Rugby. So they came up with "soccer" from Association Football. It's absolutely divine in its simplicity. Mmm, isn't it? Yes! Jumpers for goalposts... I'll get me coat. |
